This a sample plan developed by Drew Hubbell. The
home is built with strawbale construction which is a very good insulator (the exterior walls are two-feet thick) which significantly
helps to reduce energy costs. This plan is 1225 square feet if you include the central patio, or 1025 square feet
if you do not include that patio in the square footage. The whole home is a 40 foot diameter with room sizes varying
from 11 x 13 to 24 x 14 feet. The lot size as pictured is about 100 feet by 100 feet.
We are showing
this as an example of the kind of possibilities we envision. Drew will develop plans that are suited to our site.
The four homes would be grouped somewhat near each other on ten acres of property, so there would be
plenty of room for gardening and open space. Grouping the homes will allow there to be a common well, septic system
and roads, which will also reduce costs. We also plan a community building with a large deck, lap pool, hot tub
and bbq area, as well as a small guest bedroom, and a community storage/workshop building. This will allow us to have
a full life style, while still getting the efficiencies of a smaller home.

The drawing on the right is the "elevation"
of the architectural drawing above. The smaller photo below is of strawbale construction on a round house of about
the same size. It was also built by Hubble and Hubble.

We would like to keep the basic plan of the
homes uniform to keep the costs down. However, the interiors can be customized. Here are some photos of beautiful
interior's of strawbale homes. The thick walls lend well to window seats, built in niche shelving, and natural finishes.
The floors can be done with adobe or other natural techniques. The photo to the right shows the traditional "truth
window" that shows the straw inside the finished wall. Double click on each of the photos to see an enlargement.

This is a photo of Drew Hubbell and his father James Hubbell.
They describe their architectural firm like this:
"The Hubbell and Hubbell team creates places that heal the
soul and renew the spirit, focusing on organic design solutions for the built environment."

about them can be found by clicking on the photo, which is a link to their website.
